Sophie’s Gift Guide 2020
From the maman poule (mother hen) of Oeuf herself, the lovely Sophie Demenge! This year, Sophie has been consciously buying nothing for herself that’s not a necessity, so we had to coax this list out of her — and we are all the luckier for it. She says this is both her wishlist and give-list... because giving is receiving, of course.
Curated from all across the internet and globe, here’s a peek into some of Sophie’s favorite artists, brands and pastimes.
Sophie’s oldest, Mae, was set to go to her freshman year of college this year (put on hold by Covid). But her first dorm-room bedding set is still ready to go! Isn’t it amazing that Oeuf’s first crib was built for her 18 years ago?
Oeuf personalized ornaments
Coming this week! Keep an eye out for the chance to order custom ornaments, which were so popular last year we’re bringing them back.
The curation in this Black-woman-owned Philly shop is perfectly graphic, colorful and hilarious. All things Sophie and our team love to support.
Upcycled quilt outerwear by Farewell Frances
In celebration of the Americana quilting tradition, Carly Scheck gives old quilts new life with her lovely jacket silhouettes, sized for both kids and adults. If you have a family quilt that needs repurposing, you can have something new made from it!
Sophie got this for her family last year and it’s hilarious. (It gets some eyerolls from her teenagers, but that’s OK.)
Eva Chen’s A is for Awesome: 23 Iconic Women Who Changed the World
For all the minis, our friend Eva Chen’s book makes a wonderful gift — and even better when it’s signed, personalized and bought from an independent bookstore!
When Sophie gifts Oeuf, our animal hoodies are her go-to. They’re adorable and oh-so-cozy, and perfect for handing down to siblings, family friends or even the next generation.
Classes at Trapeze School New York
Sophie loves giving shared experience gifts, and this is her favorite. Did you know Sophie has a trapeze in her living room? And she knows how to use it, thanks to Trapeze School New York in Williamsburg...oh, and circus school from when she was in her 20s, no big deal.
Clogs by Good Guys Don’t Wear Leather
Sophie: “If Oeuf ever designed shoes, they would be vegan.” We love these classic clogs that have been updated for a plant-based lifestyle. So what do you think...should we give Good Guys a call and get to work on a collab?
Aren’t Wild One’s designs a breath of fresh air?
We all love this brand for its body-positivity messaging and simple, sustainable designs. The perfect gift for fierce women and their bebes.
We are all animal lovers around here, and it’s always a special treat to see your furry friends wearing our limited-edition Oeuf sweaters.
Bicycle Basket by Baba Tree via Goodee
Sophie’s family of four can be spotted on their bikes around Brooklyn on the daily. Sophie picked out this bicycle basket for its color palette, its provenance of being handmade by an artisan in Africa, and that its curated and sold through a Black-owned business.
Everyone gets a card by Carissa! For this season’s collection, we partnered with illustrator Carissa Potter of People I’ve Loved, because we love both her style and her sentiment: Her messages are truly heartfelt and relate to people on a new and welcome level. (Especially in 2020, right?)
And for an Oeuf x Carissa Potter design that all ages can enjoy...our I Love Me pillow! Because we could all use a daily reminder for self-love. (Also perfect for the person who has EVERYTHING.)
Our local favorite, and where Sophie has adopted her dog and one of her cats, and an organization we’ve been proud to support since 2016. Consider supporting rescue animals in your community this season with donations, adoptions, volunteering and more.
Wood sculptures from Tilde Grynnerup
Sophie is always hunting for fresh Oeuf color palette inspiration, and what better to take cues from than really good Scandinavian art?
Sophie: “I experiment with haircuts on the sprouts I'm growing in my kitchen.”
Super Powders book by Katrine van Wyk
A perfect gift for wellness seekers, written by our friend Katrine van Wyk. Her work is an inspiration (she’s co-founder of The Well), and we’ve been lucky to borrow her beautiful kids for Oeuf photoshoots, too.
We can’t say enough good about this coffee line (or its founder). Started by our stylist and photographer friend Kate Jordan, Lokah is roasted in Upstate New York and supports women coffee farmers, funding health care, job training and community infrastructure projects.
Suay Reusable "Paper Towel" Waffle Sets
Zero waste, but make it cute. Made from deadstock waffle cotton and sewn in LA, these waffle towels are perfect for replacing paper towels in the kitchen. From a women-owned, LBGTQ-friendly brand.
Tamar is a fellow Brooklynite, an incredible backyard gardener and the maker of these divine art objects. Sophie’s favorites are the Flying Black Bird and the Coral, but any would make a perfect addition to a well-curated home.
We only do this twice a year — right now you can get any name or word embroidered on our best-selling baby alpaca crowns, and they make such a good gift. Order by 11/17 for delivery by 12/19.
